Ice-cream colours

The episode which sees Ross and Rachel finally get together for the very first time also boasts this very key fashion moment. Rachel's pastel lemon-yellow polo-neck is very in keeping with one of the biggest trends of the new season, ice-cream colours. Seen at Hermès (pictured), Victoria Beckham, Preen, Céline and many more, it's a look you should be in a rush to copy.
Oversized knitwear

As the queen of kooky and comfortable style, Phoebe has plenty of great knitwear moments, no more so than when she wears this oversized animal-emblazoned jumper during season two. Styled over a floaty maxi skirt, her look is reminiscent of Michael Kors' lilac catwalk moment for spring – but with the addition of a very Balenciaga scrunchie. Top marks.
Checked shirts

Of course, as Monica knows, the checked shirt never goes out of style, something which she expertly proves in season four. Teamed with lightwash jeans, simple sneakers and a great bob, her look is a lot more off-duty than how the shirt was shown in Balenciaga's most recent collection, but just as stylish.

Sheer

Probably Rachel's best Thanksgiving ensemble came in the form of this very underwear-as-outerwear, sheer, lace blouse that she wore in season eight. Although she styled it over a camisole, she's still making a strong case for the very prevalent sheer trend, which was seen at Preen (pictured), Burberry, Christopher Kane and Calvin Klein, to name just a few.
Slip dresses and boots

Unsurprisingly, the slip dress makes more than a few stylish appearances over the decade in Friends, but Phoebe's very cool styling of the piece back in season one has to be the strongest. Teamed with chunky, lace-up biker boots, she gave the look a grungy feel that was very similar to what was seen on John Galliano's spring/summer 2018 catwalk.
Monochrome

Although ice-cream pastels and Crayola brights ruled the SS18 catwalks, Dior made a very strong case for sticking with monochrome. The collection was filled with statement black-and-white looks, a classic feel that is not dissimilar to Monica's catering workwear back in season two.

Matchy-matchy tailoring

We could wax lyrical for hours about Rachel's expert office wear, particularly her vast array of skirt and trouser suits. This particular ensemble though is right on trend for the new season with its matchy-matchy colours and boxy shape. It looks like it could have come straight off the Paul Smith catwalk.
String bags

Not a catwalk trend per se, but certainly one of the biggest street-style obsessions at the moment: string grocery bags. They have been carried by the likes of Camille Charriere and re-imagined by Vetements, but Monica was way ahead of the curve (even if she was just using it to carry her groceries).
Gingham

Picnic prints made their comeback a few seasons back and have remained a strong contender for summer ever since. Rachel channels the gingham school dress perfectly here, just as it was seen on the Creatures of Comfort catwalk during New York Fashion Week.

Dorky denim

Short denim dungarees are not easy to pull off when you're over the age of seven, but Rachel makes a seriously strong case for them when she teams them with a Breton, white trainers and a simple black jacket in season two. The look is a much more playful and dressed-down version of something seen on the Adam Selman catwalk in September, but the message is the same: have fun with your denim.
