Clueless-Inspired Plaids Hit The AW18 Runways

There's nothing more Cher-inspired than a matching plaid suit. For her Fall/Winter 2018 show, Donatella Versace sent a mash-up of brightly coloured schoolgirl blazer and skirt combos down the runway. There was plenty of '80s London punk inspiration thrown into the collection, with a mix of chunky platforms and studded belts, but Clueless was a definite core thread of the show.

Parsons grad and a Rihanna-favourite, Dolan unveiled sculptural skirt suits over plaid shirts for his latest line. This fitted denim blazer, worn over a canary yellow ensemble, evoked major Clueless vibes.

Channeling Cher and mixing prints with abandon, Kors debuted '90s grunge plaids, floral slip dresses, and pairings of yellow checkered patterns with argyle for his newest collection.

The plaid suiting trend has shown up on street style stars in addition to the runways. Here, the supermodel stayed ahead of the style curve, donning a checkered crop top from newcomer Aussie brand I.Am.Gia while out in Paris in July 2017.

For fall, Battaglia adhered to her brand's core DNA of sleek tailoring, unveiling structured blazers with cape-like shoulders paired with high-waisted trousers and grungey combat boots.

Danish designer Charlotte Eskildsen presented this Scottish-esque yellow frock during her show at Copenhagen Fashion Week. Delicate chiffon, ladylike gloves, and bow-topped heels exuded femininity in this bold-and-bright ensemble.

The newly married Instagram star took a page right out of Cher's style book with this plaid Miaou jumpsuit, Stuart Weitzman ankle strap heels, and a matching yellow handbag from the Kooples while attending a basketball game this past December.
