I don’t envy your dilemma. Unlike most girls, I hate dressing up for formal occasions. But rest assured, even for the fussiest dressers there is something out there. In fact, you’re looking at a great time. The summer sales are in full swing so you have the option of getting a designer dress at a fraction of the cost.
To avoid the glitzy, OTT sequins and satin dresses, opt for simple colour palettes (nude, navy, dusky pink, black etc) and look for classic, simple cuts rather than anything with a daring neckline. Maxi dresses in luxe fabrics with minimal detailing are my first pick. They may seem simple on first look, but take a look at Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s recent red carpet hits here to see what I’m suggesting you channel, while the gallery to the left shows some of the best dresses I’ve found for you. Alternatively, check out what the A-list wore to this week’s Serpentine Summer party…
My next top tip would be to head straight to the designer stores- Selfridges, Liberty, Harvey Nichols etc which all offer amazing bargains at this time of year. But if you’re unable to head to a big city, then definitely look on designer websites including Net-a-Porter, My-Wardrobe, Matches, and Browns.
To make it even easier, ELLEuk.com’s very own shop style tool will collate all of the dresses from these websites in one easy step- and you can even limit the options it provides by selecting budget, colour and even size. Click here to check it out; it will transform your shopping experience!
