Congratulations on your new baby, and aren’t you lucky to have such a nice husband!
A cocktail ring is a great choice as a gift – there is something so utterly uplifting about wearing something large and ornate on your finger – it instantly boosts the style credentials of any outfit.
With your aversion to delicate jewellery in mind, I have made a selection of some of the best fashion jewellery pieces out there at the moment. All the big brands have their own take on the cocktail ring – Roberto Cavalli’s are uproariously glitzy creations, Lanvin’s are twinkling gem boxes and Alexander McQueen’s are glittering with macabre innuendo.
A longstanding favourite with the fashion set is the YSL ‘Arty’ ring, which can be spotted on the fingers of all the editors in the ELLE offices. These are pure costume, and the price reflects that, however they do last well, and are indeed timeless.
Zara Simon, a jewellery designer who lives in Ibiza, has a great selection of cocktail rings made of plated gold and faceted semi-precious stones.
A good option when looking for something large and ornate is to go vintage. Ugo Correani use vintage materials for their pieces and they evoke the rhinestone-laden glamour of eras past.
One of my favourite fashion jewellery designers of the moment is Lara Bohinc, who expertly draws on the influences of the Art Deco era without parodying it – this ring is a perfect example of that and whilst it is a little over your budget, I’m afraid I just had to include it, so beautiful and striking are the lines.
And if you really want something very special, get in touch with Emma Franklin, one of ELLEuk.com’s favourite jewellery designers. She offers a bespoke ring service – this one contains a few strands of the hair of a loved one so imagine what you could do with a little imagination?
