After all the voting activity, speculation and a little bit of teasing, were proud to announce that Beckham will cover our July 2012 issue.
David Beckham is a national hero, so we saw an opportunity to shoot a celebratory cover to support an historical and patriotic year, ELLE Editor-in-Chief Lorraine Candy said. He is an icon and ELLE is known for featuring icons on its cover. This is a first for us on the newsstand and I believe he is loved by men and women alike. Anyway, who doesn't want to see a picture of one of the world's most handsome men on the front cover of a magazine? It will be a collectors issue.
The footballer, heartthrob dad and husband-of-VB will make history by appearing as ELLEs first solo male cover star as we celebrate the 2012 Olympic Games.
Beckham called the shoot really exciting. ELLE is a prestigious magazine with international recognition. I'm honoured to have been asked to be the first ever solo male fashion cover.
And you can watch it happen. The ELLE team will tweet every detail from the shoot in Los Angeles, from fashion to teatime treats.
Tweet your questions to Beckham @ELLEUK and well do our best to incorporate them into our interview and ELLE TV video of the shoot.
Beckham has been a subject of fascination to ELLE readers since long before any hint of a cover. You've followed everything from his life with Victoria to his bodywear range for H&M through ELLE and ELLEuk.com
