Collecting the Oscar for best supporting actress for her portrayal of Fantine in Les Miserables, Hathaway thanked the Academy, her team and husband Adam Shulman. ‘By far and away the greatest moment of my life was the one when you walked into it. I love you so much,’ she said.

Hathaway appeared only briefly in Les Mis, but captivated audiences and the Academy with her powerful portrayal of Fantine, a young mother who turns to prostitution to support her daughter. The actress concluded her acceptance speech with a wish that someday, misfortunes like Fantine’s ‘will only be found in stories and nevermore in real life.’

Meanwhile, offstage, Hathaway’s nipples emerged as the 2013 Oscars equivalent of Angelina Jolie’s right leg.

Almost as soon as the ELLE cover star stepped onto the Oscars red carpet, viewers noted that the bodice darts on her pale pink Prada gown highlighted her… well, you know.

Within minutes, someone launched a Twitter account called @HathawayNipples, amassing nearly 2,000 followers within an hour.

Hathaway’s dress choice divided fans who expected the actress to wear another Valentino gown. When Valentino announced its red-carpet lineup on Sunday afternoon, brand representatives said that Hathaway, Sally Field and Jennifer Aniston would all wear Valentino couture to entertainment’s biggest event. Instead, Hathaway opted for the slim Prada gown.

‘I didn’t know what I was wearing until about three hours ago,’ she said on the red carpet. ‘This was the one that spoke to me in the end.’
