Did you know that 31 million girls aren’t in school?

It’s a shocking statistic, and one that charity A World At School, which was co-founded by Sarah Brown, was keen to highlight this week ahead of International Women’s Day.

In conjunction with Facebook Women, the organization gathered London’s most powerful female voices – among them Emma Freud, Jo Whiley, Paloma Faith, Britt Lintner and, of course, ELLE – at a conference where the global empowerment of women was very much at the top of the agenda.

We were particularly moved by the speech made by education advocate Amrit Kaur Lohia: ‘There is a famous saying – “If you think you are too small to have an impact – try going to bed with a mosquito.”’
