With previous former film credentials ranging from action blockbuster G.I. Joe to sixties biopic Factory Girl , Sienna Miller's versatility now sees the actress turning her hand to period dramas.

The British actress has been cast as the lead role in an upcoming Jane Austen film adaption. Miller will play Lady Susan, the anti-heroine and eponymous character of one of Jane Austen's lesser-known novels.

The plot of the film - titled Love and Friendship - centres on the schemes of recently-widowed Lady Vernon Susan as she searches for a new husband for herself, as well as one for her daughter.

The film will be directed by Whit Stillman - better known for his 1990 Oscar-nominated film Metropolitan - and Miller will star alongside American actress and former model Chloe Sevigny.
