Five minutes with Caz Moran

On Raised by Wolves

Raised by Wolves is a new Channel 4 comedy written by Caz and Caitlin Moran. It’s a modern day reimagining of the Morans’ childhood, set on a Wolverhampton council estate. Tune in tonight to watch the pilot episode and, in the meantime, get Caz's take on the show below.

Why should we watch Raised by Wolves?

There's angry jogging, a song about cheese and the worst bed-time story every told.

How autobiographical is Raised by Wolves? Have you ever thrown a lawnmower at Caitlin? Or locked her in a garden shed?

When I was six, I trapped her under the baby's cot and called her 'Oxo' until she cried. But that was in retaliation for her telling me I was adopted. The battle rages to this day.

Germaine, Aretha, Yoko, Mariah, Cher – the characters share their names with strong female role models. Who do you idolise?

Tina Fey. One classy dame.

If you were going to change your name, what name would you choose?

Horace Vandergelder (after the curmudgeonly shop-keeper in Hello Dolly who ends up married to Barbra Streisand).

Did you and Caitlin have any unusual working rituals when writing the script?

We had a phase of 'saging' ourselves with smoke from burning white sage, to purify us before writing. However we found that smelling a bit like Paxo afterwards was somewhat distracting.

Who was your first crush?

Mike Nesmith, the guitar player from The Monkees who always wore a bobble hat, was six foot tall and had awesome 70's sideburns. Seriously. Google him. Five year old me had taste.

If you could go backwards or forwards in time where would you go and why?

I'd go back to 2006 and tell myself not to bother buying those record decks, because I am never going to learn to DJ.

What was the last thing you and Caitlin fought about?

Whether Tom Hardy's eyes or mouth are his most attractive feature. 12 rounds, no decision.

Name three books every woman should read…

The Beauty Myth by Naomi Woolf, anything by George Orwell and I, Partridge by Alan Partridge.
