The longlist for the BBC's Sound of 2014 prize has been announced and there are some brilliant ELLE favourites on there, many of whom we'd already tipped for the top.

Widely regarded as a barometer of cool and a crystal ball for future commercial success, previous winners include Haim (2013), Jessie J (2011), Ellie Goulding (2010) and Adele (2008).

LA electric soul singer Banks is on the 2014 list, proof that Nick Grimshaw really does have an ear for new musical talent - the Radio 1 DJ featured her in his special guest edit in the December issue of ELLE.

Other names to watch closely are London-born Dubstep pop artist FKA Twigs, 18-year-old Chloe Howl whose spirited lyrics have drawn comparisons to Lily Allen and Say Lou Lou, Swedish-Australian twin sisters Miranda and Elektra Kilbey, who create dreamy electro-pop.

The longlist will be narrowed down to a top five in the week of 6 January, with the winner to be named on 10 January.
