With the 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who airing tomorrow (Saturday 22 November), both in selected cinemas and on BBC One, we couldn’t help but join in the hordes of people discussing it on Twitter by canvassing opinion in the ELLE office about which Doctor was the best. Would it be the First Doctor, William Hartnell? Or the most recent, Matt Smith? Whatever the result, can’t wait for tomorrow’s episode.

Lorraine Candy, Editor-in-Chief: Christopher Eccleston (Ninth Doctor) was the most handsome, but Tom Baker (Fourth Doctor) is the best Doctor for me, as he was the one on the show when I was little.

Eilidh Williamson, Art Intern: David Tennant (Tenth Doctor), because he’s Scottish like me!

Annabel Brog, Editorial Project Director: Tennant!

Fern Ross, Production Editor/Chief Sub Editor: Tom Baker. I had a boss at an old job who looked like him. Mildly terrifying…

Patricia Campbell, Commercial Editor: Some of the doctors can feel a bit cartoonish but Christopher Eccleston played the role with a tinge of bleakness, which added a sense of depth and mystery.

Miette L. Johnson, Art Director: Dalek.
