In need of some inspiration to get you through your Monday? You need to watch the acceptance speech that Angelina Jolie gave at this weekend’s Governors Ball.

The actress was honoured with the Jean Hersholt Humaitarian Award for the charity work that she has undertaken around the world with the Untied Nations – and we’re pretty sure that by the time she’d finished speaking there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

She began her emotional speech by thanking husband Brad Pitt – ‘My love, your support and your guidance make everything I do possible’ – before assuring her son Maddox, who was also sat in the audience, that she wouldn’t embarrass him by crying.

She then went on to pay tribute to the influence that her late mother, Marcheline Bertrand, had on her path in life, instilling her with a belief that films should mean something. ‘She was very clear that nothing would mean anything if I didn’t live a life that was of use to others.’

Jolie finished by talking about how humbled and grateful she felt to be given the life and chances that she’s had. ‘Across the world, there's a woman just like me with the same abilities and the same desires, same work ethic and love for her family, who would most likely make better films and better speeches. Only she sits in a refugee camp, and she has no voice. She worries about what her children will eat, how to keep them safe, and if they'll ever be allowed to return home. I will do as my mother asked and I will do the best that I can with this life to be of use and to stand here today means that I did as she asked and if she were alive she would be very proud.’

It’s very powerful. And very emotional. Watch the speech in full below.
