The day has finally arrived – the ELLE Fashion Bake Off is here and ELLE HQ is choc-a-bloc with cakes, muffins, cookies and crumbles – hurrah!

Inspired by The Great British Bake Off, team ELLE have challenged themselves, and you, to come up with the goods - the baked goods that is – that combine flavour and style, naturally.

We asked you to tweet us pictures of your baking efforts and we’re already seriously impressed! From rainbow cakes to kit-kat creations, you’re one talented bunch.

Meanwhile, at ELLE HQ there’s already a theme emerging with more than one cake inspired by the man, the enigma, Karl Lagerfeld. Features Assistant Georgia Simmonds has emerged as a front-runner this morning with a cake in the shape of the Chanel designer’s cat Choupette which has caused quite the stir. Impressive design yes, but will the sponge be moist or, as she fears ‘as dry as a stale digestive biscuit’?

This being ELLE, we know the cakes have style, but will they have substance? This is the all-important question for Sunday Times baking expert Gizzi Erskine who arrives to judge our efforts this afternoon.

The tension is mounting in the office as team ELLE’s slight (read: enormous and terrifying) competitive streak surfaces. There’s last-minute decorating going on in our IKEA baking-haven and envious glances abounding at each other's gorgeous Sophie Conran cake stands. But surely no one would consider (whisper it) sabotage, would they? If custard-theft can happen in the bunting and pun-filled world of the GBBO, who knows what might happen in an office of fashion’s fiercest?
