ELLE reviews Gravity

Sandra Bullock and George Clooney star

'Wow!' 'Amazing!' 'Cor blimey':

Just some of the words spluttered from the open mouths (literally) of cinema-goers after the recent premiere of Gravity at the BFI London Film Festival.

Alfonso Cuarón’s 3D extravaganza will leave you gripping your popcorn for dear life and holding your breath for an alarmingly long time.

Sandra Bullock and George Clooney star as two American space-walkers on a mission to repair the Hubble Telescope who struggle (and we mean really struggle) to cling on to life when they are cast adrift into space after shards of debris from a Russian satellite hurtles towards them.

A gripping tale of survival, the film manages to transcend mere action-thriller to become a reflection on the ties that hold us together (as Clooney and Bullock are so often literally tethered to each other’s space suits) and the very human desire to cling to life, despite its hardships.

So impressive are the CGI effects in Gravity, you’ll fight the temptation to try reaching into the screen to grab onto something, anything!

If you’ve ever fancied floating into space and drifting amongst the stars, this film will make you feel you have and, more importantly, survived to tell the tale.
