The voyeur in us is really enjoying We Think Alone is a new project from artist Miranda July which gives us a peek at some of our favourite stars’ emails.

The concept is simple: 20 e-mails over 20 weeks from the Sent folders of, amongst others, Girls creator Lena Dunham, actress Kirsten Dunst and sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy.

Two weeks in and the results so far have been revealing.

In Monday’s ‘email that gives advice’, Dunham helps ‘K’ with her man trouble saying he ‘wants to suck the kindness out of you’.
On the same theme a cryptic email from ‘Rodarte’ to ‘V’ simply says ‘whiskey sours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’ which sounds like great advice to us.
Kate and Laura have been friends with Miranda for years: ‘We’re great admirers of her creativity and the way she re-examines everyday experiences’.
It seems a day in the life of Dunham involves avoiding crazy purchases as last week’s theme of ‘money’ saw her reveal that a $24,000 sofa was ‘just too expensive’ – we agree!
Kirsten Dunst’s e-mails reveal she is more of a practical sort writing to ‘H’ that ‘My friend Jessica is buying my car for 7,000’ but this week ‘was unable to locate an email that gives advice’.

Others involved in the project include basketball star and writer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar; Canadian writer Sheila Heti; Israeli writer and filmmaker Etgar Keret; photographer Catherine Opie; theoretical physicist Lee Smolin; and contemporary artist Danh Vo.

Two down, eighteen to go – roll on Monday!
