Elle Fanning Had The Best Alternative Prom

It involved couture in Cannes

Being an international movie star at the age of 18 has many perks.

But getting to attend your senior prom is not one of them, as Elle Fanning recently found out.

While the actress was attending the Cannes Film Festival last week for her role in 'The Neon Demon', the latest film from 'Drive' director Nicolas Winding Refn, her high school classmates were celebrating at their prom back in Los Angeles.

Not wanting to miss out, Elle flew her prom date out to Cannes so they could have their own party.

'Reliving my Senior Prom! Thank you, @basquitwat for flying out since I could not be home and making our prom night one to remember forever!#ProminCannes #PromontheRedCarpet [sic],' she wrote alongside a black and white image of the pair in a classic prom photo shot.

There was one huge difference to your average prom photo though - Elle was wearing haute couture and diamonds.

The pale pink fairy tale gown was created by Zuhair Murad and was embroidered with shimmering pink roses and celadon flowers.

She accessorised with a diamond necklace and rings by Tiffany & Co.

Not a bad prom alternative, eh?
