Kanye West hits No.1 with album Yeezus

Rapper bags the No.1 spot at Official Albums Chart

It’s been a busy week for Kanye West; the new father has welcomed daughter North (yes, North West) into the world and now his album Yeezus has scored the number one spot on the Official Albums Chart, topping Rod Stewart who came in at a honourable fourth place and Daft Punk at sixth.

Kanye’s a bit of a Marmite artist; you love him or you hate him, but whatever your feelings for him (his hate camp went up quite considerably after embarrassing teen sensation Taylor Swift at the MTV Awards) there’s no denying the rapper’s talent. And this new album is no exception.

As the follow-up album to his critically acclaimed Watch The Throne, his newest venture has caused quite a stir; mainly because he refers to himself as Yeezus, the rapper equivalent of Jesus. Egotistic, blasphemous or a genius marketing ploy?

It’s the first time K West has reached No.1 with an album in the UK since 2007 with Graduation. From a graduate to the holy Messiah in just six years. Wonder where he’ll be in 10?
