Fifty Shades Of Grey has moved one step closer to big-screen realisation: Sam Taylor-Wood has been confirmed to direct the eagerly-anticipated film version of EL James’ erotic blockbuster.

James confirmed the project herself via Twitter last night with the message, ‘I'm delighted & thrilled to let you guys know that Sam Taylor-Johnson has agreed to direct the film of Fifty Shades of Grey.’

Which leads us to the inevitable question… Will Taylor-Wood’s actor husband Aaron Taylor-Johnson step up to play the titular Christian Grey?

The two have form, having met on the set of Nowhere Boy in 2009.

Speculation about who’ll play the roles of Grey and his wide-eyed young lover Anastasia Steele has hit fever pitch, with names-in-the-frame including Henry Cavill, Ryan Gosling, Channing Tatum and Ed Westwick and Alexis Bledel, Emma Roberts, Felicity Jones and Emilia Clarke respectively.

Whatever the scoop, we shouldn’t have too long to wait: Universal has declared the film an ‘absolute priority’, and it has a rumoured release date of summer 2014.
