After seven years playing the bookish know-it-all Hermione Granger - and a handful of years away from her - ELLE style icon Emma Watson is returning to the world of fantasy. The 23-year–old has signed up for the big screen adaptation of fantasy novel Queen Of The Tearling.

If there is a certain warrior TV series-shaped hole in your life, this Game Of Thrones-style saga could be the perfect antidote (the publishers have compared its tone to that of the smash-hit HBO series).

The film is based on Erika Johansen’s trilogy of books and will see Watson play 19-year-old princess Kelsea Glynn. Set in a post apocalyptic world, the story follows Glynn as she tries to reclaim her late mother’s throne and kingdom, the Tearling, from the tyrannical Red Queen.

It seems it could be the start of a new franchise for the British actress - Johansen signed a seven-book deal in February, and the first novel in the series is due next year.

The film will see Watson reunited with Harry Potter producer David Heyman, along with Warner Bros, who have bought acquired film rights to the entire book series.

What with Watson rumoured to be an executive producer on the project, this is one saga we are getting excited about.

Geeky wizard, wallflower, money-hungry teenage thief and now a kingdom-stealing monarch - is there nothing Miss Watson can’t do?
