Cannes top five

Film festival highlights

The glamour

Cannes 2013 boasted plenty of films with stunning costume design - The Great Gatsby and to name but two. We also loved – featuring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon in a dazzlingly array of gaudy outfits. Why should guys miss out on all the dress up fun?

The excited newcomers

When we met the young cast of The Bling Ring they were jumping for joy about their first Cannes, making a refreshing change from more jaded veterans. Israel Broussard and Katie Chang told us their Mums were excited to be there too - bless.

The parties

Huge events like the amfAR gala are always thrilling but we also found fun in beach bar bashes and villa parties - the after party for La Grande Bellezza was particularly elegant, with big names in Italian cinema showing off their style and letting their hair down with the DJ.

The Palm Dog Awards

A cult fringe institution, the Palm Dog - a word play on the Palme D'Or - was terrific fun, especially as we were invited onto the jury this year. The prize for best canine performance went to the poodle from Behind The Candelabra and we celebrated with several pooches and glasses of rose.

The films

La Grande Bellezza, set in Rome's wealthy society crowd, was an absolute treat and we also enjoyed Brit filmmaker Clio Barnard's drama The Selfish Giant, Alexander Payne's US indie Nebraska and the good-looking French drama Jeune et Jolie.
