Matt Damon and Michael Douglas hit the Cannes red carpet today for the premiere of Behind The Candelabra.

Michael Douglas as famous pianist Liberace and Matt Damon as his hunky young lover - it's irresistible, unexpected casting in a film that's charming the Cannes crowd.

Steven Soderbergh's film is as camp and OTT as the real-life pianist himself.

Liberace dressed head to toe in sequins and lived a champagne-swilling, jacuzzi-soaked lifestyle - amazingly, keeping his sexuality a secret from legions of female fans.

It's a lot of fun watching him welcome Damon's innocent young character into his world of fame and fortune - and surprisingly moving when the mood goes dark.

Damon's great as the young man who quickly gets a taste of the high life and Rob Lowe is very funny as a stretch-faced plastic surgeon.

But ultimately it's Michael Douglas' show - just the way Liberace would have wanted it.

This Cannes premiere bash is going to be one lavish affair.

Behind The Candelabra hits UK cinemas on 7 June
