Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon star in this charming indie movie set in Mississippi.

He's 'Mud', a mysterious drifter who sets up camp on an abandoned island.

Discovered by two inquisitive 14-year old boys, Ellis and Neckbone, Mud persuades them to bring him food and take messages to his lost love, Juniper (Witherspoon).

The boys are fascinated by this eccentric Texan wild man and vow to help him, but soon discover he's wanted by a string of unsavoury types.

Mud beautifully blends romance and thrills with character drama and humour, anchored by a charismatic performance from a twinkly-eyed, barely-dressed (of course!) Matthew McConaughey.

Reese puts in a nuanced performance, filling her eyes with resigned regret as her character waits in a motel room for news of her beau.

Despite the dark themes, Mud is brimming with sunshine and nostalgic innocence: a Stand By Me for a new generation.
Mud is in cinemas 10 May
