What do you reckon Beyoncé is doing right now? Practising her booty shake, playing with Blue Ivy, taking a nap?
As we discovered yesterday – on a backstage tour of The Mrs Carter Show - the latter is unlikely. Beyoncé is high energy, all the time.
‘There’s no way you can work with her and not develop an incredible work ethic. When you’re with a pro you learn from the pro. She’s incredible.’ Said Montina, Crissy and Tiffany, the three brilliant vocalists – aka The Mamas - who have been supporting Beyoncé on tour for a combined total of 25 years.
‘In order to sing behind such a powerhouse you have to be a powerhouse. We have her back every night.’ Agree The Mamas.
With 12 outfit changes per performance and 30-40 seconds in which to make them happen, every stage look has to be engineered so that the switches are seamless. The secret is ‘Lots of double stick. There’s always drama’ said Tina Knowles - Beyoncé’s mum and the woman responsible for Mrs Carter’s show stopping stage wardrobe.
Designers including Givenchy, Pucci, Julien Macdonald and Kenzo have collaborated to create Queen Bey’s unique costumes. Tina’s personal favourties? ‘The Kenzo. I love the movement, it’s cool with the choreography, and African inspired. And David Koma’s things are really innovative.’
In all, there’s a lot of love backstage at The Mrs Carter show. It’s not just the whole wide world that’s completely in awe of B, those closest to her are too. ‘Beyonce is magical and we just want to make sure we are an extension of her magic’ add Beyonce's troupe of dancers.
So we all agree then, Beyonce rules.
