ELLE Sessions star A*M*E has scored her first UK number one with her single, Need U (100%).

ELLE spotted the supremely talented electro-popstar first: we featured 18-year old A*M*E – real name Aminata Kabba – for ELLE Sessions back in November, where she wowed the fashionable crowd at London venue, The Scotch with her debut single Play The Game Boy. A*M*E described her ELLE shoot as, 'awesome! It was such an amazing experience and I'm really happy I got to do it.'

Fast-forward a few months and she’s in LA writing and recording her debut album and preparing to shoot the video for her next single, Heartless.

She was understandably in high spirits about her first UK number one: ‘It’s so crazy! I still can’t begin to believe it ’.

A*M*E might have been born in 1994 but the singer-songwriter has already worked with an impressive roster of leading industry figures, including Emeli Sandé and Duke Dumont – who was the producer on Need U (100%). She’s also toured with ELLE coverstar Jessie J and boyband JLS.

Speaking exclusively to ELLE, A*M*E said that when she hit the top-spot she 'just screamed', then celebrated with 'drinks at the hotel since the age limit is 21, followed by a midnight pool party' where she ended up in the pool. It sounds like she's loving the LA life - 'I'm getting to work with some amazing producers' - but she's looking forward to being home and seeing her family and a little down-time before her next release.

She cites her major influences as Rihanna, Beyoncé and ‘idol’ Janet Jackson, and says that some of her addictive, anthemic music is influenced by K-Pop.

We predicted big things for A*M*E back in November – look out for her hitting the stratosphere in 2013.
