Been feeling extraordinarily chipper today? Us too. And it’s no coincidence – it’s officially the first ever International Happiness Day.

The UN came up with this rather fabulous initiative in a bid to move away from Gross Domestic Product (GDP) – aka, money – being used a measure of progress.

Naturally, this has been the topic of much debate at ELLE Towers today. The upshot? Here’s what makes us happy...

‘A sunny day, a plate of stinky cheese, a cold glass of white wine and Uniqlo jeans’ – Christina Simone, workflow director

‘Peanut butter and honey on thick white ready sliced bread. Taste of childhood’ – Annabel Brog, editor at large

‘Thinking about the day I met my partner. Just this morning I sat on the tube smiling at an internet dating advert because that's how I met him. He is my best friend and the father of my children. Bliss’ – Stacey Duguid, editor at large

‘Knowing I'm being taken to the David Bowie private view tonight. Been humming Star Man all morning’ – Susan Ward Davies, travel editor

‘My first thought? Good food!’ – Ruby Harrison, acting PA to the editor-in-chief
