The latest under-the-radar fashion brand for sartorially inclined A-listers and royals alike, if you haven't heard of The Vampire's Wife yet, then listen up, because it's kind of a big deal.
The design brainchild of Susie Cave (aka music legend Nick Cave's wife and former muse of Vivienne Westwood and Bella Freud), The Vampire's Wife is the British born fashion brand putting modest frocks back on the red carpet. The look? High necked dresses with maxi hemlines and frill-finished sleeves in velvets, metallics and Liberty prints perfectly timed for the return to modest, but by no means frumpy, dressing. Or, as Susie likes to call her signature floor-skimming dresses, 'street-sweepers'.
Co-founded by Susie and her friend and business partner Alex Adamson in 2014, what started off as an 'insiders only' capsule collection has since exploded on to the A-list scene with everyone from Sienna Miller and Alexa Chung, to Hollywood's finest Cate Blanchett, Dakota Johnson and Salma Hayek donning the brand's modern approach to glamour. And now, The Vampire's Wife has received the ultimate seal of approval, from none other than style icon Kate Middleton herself.
In the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first official joint portrait, painted by Jamie Coreth and unveiled at the Fitzwilliam Museum yesterday, Kate is depicted wearing one of The Vampire's Wife's signature styles in a shimmering dark green – and looking very chic indeed.
The particularly eagle-eyed, however, will know that this is not the first time Middleton has donned the British brand for a high-profile public event. In fact, the Duchess has worn the exact dress from Coreth's portrait before – for a royal tour of Ireland back in 2020, no less.
And as if that wasn't proof enough of Middleton being a Vampire's Wife super-fan, the Duchess also wore a specially-made bright pink version of the brand's signature dress for the recent, and controversial, Caribbean royal tour.
It's the royal, high-fashion version of discovering a piece you love and buying it in every single colour. We're not jealous at all...
