The latest under-the-radar fashion brand for the sartorially inclined A-listers, if you haven't heard of The Vampire's Wife yet, then listen up, because it's kind of a big deal.
The design brainchild of Susie Cave (aka music legend Nick Cave's wife and former muse of Vivienne Westwood and Bella Freud), The Vampire's Wife is the British born fashion brand putting modest frocks back on the red carpet, and the only designer to tempt Dakota Johnson away from her Gucci obsession. Which is saying something.
Co-founded by Susie and her friend and business partner Alex Adamson in 2014, what started off as an 'insiders only' capsule collection has since exploded on to the A-list scene with everyone from Brit style icons Sienna Miller and Alexa Chung, to Hollywood's finest Cate Blanchett and Salma Hayek donning the brand's modern approach to glamour.
The look? High necked dresses with maxi hemlines and frill-finished sleeves in velvets, metallics and Liberty prints perfectly timed for 2017's return to modest, but by no means frumpy, dressing. Or, as Susie likes to call her signature floor-skimming dresses, 'street-sweepers'.
Counting Hollywood's more fashion forward, and let's be honest, cooler, stars amongst their clientele, The Vampire's Wife has even managed to lure Kate Moss over to the dark side:
'I have always been a little in awe of Susie,' says Moss,' I love how she oozes sex in an unassuming way – a lot like her clothes, actually...'. Unsurprisingly, Moss summed up Cave's defining style perfectly, describing her dresses as, 'Little House on the Prairie dresses gone luxe'. We couldn't have said it better ourselves.
But Cave's 70s feminine throwback designs are far from limited, with the line expanding into pastel cashmere and silk cardigans (just in time for SS18's cardi comeback), chiffon blouses and universally figure-flattering pencil skirts and tailored trousers. In short, the only capsule wardrobe you'd ever need. Minus the jeans.
'I don't know what it is,' Florence Welch told VOGUE, 'but they make you look like you're practising witchcraft in a very romantic cult, which is how I want to look all the time. As a musician, I worship at the altar of Nick Cave, so I've always been fascinated by Susie as his enigmatic muse and inspiration. It's been so beautiful to see the muse become the maker.'
