Following the global success of Girls, Lena Dunham is turning her attention to the fashion world.

The scarily talented 26-year-old writer / director / actress isn’t releasing a clothing line (possibly a good thing if you consider her outfits in Girls), but has instead signed up to work on a new HBO series based on All Dressed Up and Everywhere to Go – a memoir written by Bergdorf Goodman stylist to the stars, Betty Halbreich.

A New York institution, Halbreich has dressed some of the US’s biggest stars since launching personal shopping of the famous department store in 1976. Meryl Streep, Sarah Jessica Parker and Glenn Close have all passed through her doors, and she has consulted on the styling for various films and TV shows (not least Sex And The City).

Described as ‘brassy’ by Deadline, which broke the story, the now-85-year-old Halbreich is still very much in the driving seat at Bergdorf and her memoir is an exclusive peek behind the scenes at high fashion in the US style capital.

HBO confirmed to The New York Times that it had optioned the project and that Dunham was onboard, but declined to specify in what capacity.

ELLE is, of course, hoping for at least a glimpse of her in front of the lens.
