Grace Kelly's family angry at biopic

Nicole Kidman film criticised

The children of fashion and style icon Grace Kelly – later Princess Grace of Monaco – Prince Albert of Monaco, Princess Caroline and Princess Stephanie, have released a statement denouncing the upcoming Nicole Kidman biopic of their mother as ‘pointlessly glamorised and historically inaccurate’.

Kidman stars as the Hollywood star-turned-revered royal in Grace Of Monaco, which is set for release next year.

According to France’s Le Figaro newspaper, Prince Albert was sent scripts prior to the beginning of filming in a bid to win his support – but the plan has obviously backfired.

'We have had absolutely no association with this project which claims to be about the lives of our parents,’ said the siblings via a statement released yesterday. 'For us, this film does not constitute a biographical work, but portrays only a part of her life and has been pointlessly glamoured, and contains important historical inaccuracies as well as scenes of pure fiction.’

Kidman, meanwhile, has spoken of her excitement at the project, which she says reveals the royal’s ‘great humanity but also her fears and frailties as she leaves her career behind’.

Princess Grace was killed in a car accident in 1982, aged 52, but her glacial style continues to be an inspiration for stylists and designers. Kate Middleton took inspiration for her wedding dress from the iconic dress Grace Kelly wore for her own wedding in 1956.
