Much to team ELLE's excitement, the second series of Lena Dunham's smash hit Girls began on Sky Atlantic last night.

After picking up two Golden Globes on Sunday night for Best TV Comedy Series and Best Actress in a Comedy for Lena Dunham, our expectations were higher than ever.

Thankfully, series two promises to be equally brilliant, if not better, as Hannah, Marni, Shoshanna and Jessa face more reality, setbacks and dramas in the big and not-so-shiny New York city.

Marni has lost her job and is watching her carefully constructed life plan crumble; Shoshana is discovering what life is like after losing her preciously coveted virginity and Jessa is suspended in a blissful dream of marriage (to Chris O'Dowd, lucky her), penthouse apartments and new puppies.

And Hannah? She's happily shacked up with her gay ex Elijah and taking care of other ex Adam who's recovering from being hit by a truck. We said there was drama.

Now it's Adam whose love for Hannah is unrequited - 'I know I always said he was murdery in a sexy way but now he's murdery in a murdery way,' says Hannah in episode two.

Girls is just as smart and funny as before and it still manages to capture the fun, joy and misery of being in your 20's like nothing else.
