As usual the Golden Globes was a night of style, beauty and mega-watt glamour and as the first of this years major awards ceremonies we were on the lookout for this seasons emerging red carpet trends.
Without further ado, heres what we found...
RED ON RED
Gone are the days when actresses avoided red carpet clashes by steering clear of the bright shade. Scarlet gowns are back on the menu, and the bigger the silhouette, the better. Best Actress winner Jennifer Lawrence led the charge in her full-skirted Dior couture gown, but Zooey Deschanel wasnt far behind, teaming her (very similar) strapless Oscar de la Renta gown with a set of classic pearls. In terms of awards, it was the most successful shade of the night Best Actress in a TV Drama Claire Danes wore a red Atelier Versace gown so nominees of future awards take note.
Winter whites are not only a huge trend on the catwalk but the red carpet as well, with Amanda Seyfried (in Givenchy), Anne Hathaway (Chanel couture), Glees Lea Michelle (in Elie Saab) and Heidi Klum all reaching for the often unforgiving shade. Top of the pile, though, had to be Downton Abbeys Michelle Dockery, whos white dress overlayed with a structured gold lace yoke by Alexandre Vauthier has to be a contender for best dress of the night.
For those who werent brave enough to tackle the red carpet minidress the ever-stylish Thandie Newton was alone with hers but wanted to flash a little leg the sheer skirt came into play. Showing fortune favours the brave, both Rachel Weisz in black spotty Louis Vuitton and Kerry Washington in nude bejewelled Miu Miu were two of the biggest style hits of the evening.
Testament to the fact that the old favourite LBD packs a punch whatever your age were an array of stars, right from Helen Mirren (in Badgely Mischka) to Rosie Hungtington-Whiteley (wearing Saint Laurent Paris) in a slew of jet black gowns. Also on board with the black gown trend were Kate Hudson and Nicole Kidman (both in Alexander McQueen), Kristen Wiig and Julianne Moore (in custom-made Tom Ford).
