When Anne Hathaway stepped onto the red carpet at the New York premiere of last week wearing bespoke Tom Ford boots made from vegan leather we thought it was a special occasion. But it turns out that custom footwear is becoming a regular part of the actress's wardrobe.
Fashionista has revealed that all of the shoes that Hathaway wore in Les Mis had to be specially made of non-animal products, in line with the actresss diet.
[Hathaway]s vegan, so we couldnt use any animal materials on the shoes for her character Fantine, costume designer Paco Delgado told the website. We had to find very specific shoemakers to create lace-up boots and ankle boots.
According to the website, Hathaway made the move from vegetarian to vegan after she filmed The Dark Knight Rises, in which she stars as Catwoman, after a binge of pizza and wine: After I finished the rooftop fight, I ate four slices of pizza and split a bottle of red wine with my guy. I hadnt eaten like that in months. I felt so ill. By the time the movie finished, I decided to give veganism a try.
When shes not wearing bespoke Tom Ford, Hathaway has begun to wear more of lifelong vegetarian Stella McCartneys designs, which are only ever made with vegetarian fabrics, choosing a fringed dress to appear on David Letterman in the summer and vegetarian leather Stella shoes for two screenings last week. Perhaps Hathaways new diet will be the start of a stylish relationship? Watch this space...
