Seth MacFarlane confirmed his prowess as a comedy writer with 2012's (his triumphant transition from cartoons to film starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis) so we expected good things from A Million Ways to Die in the West. And good things we got.

The film features a glittering cast including ELLE cover star Amanda Seyfried, Liam Neeson, Charlize Theron and Seth MacFarlane, while humorously tackling the desperate times of the wild American frontier in 1882.

As the title implies, there are a million ways to die in the West, which is shown graphically and intermittently throughout the film: a particularly gory moment starts with four men hoisting a gargantuan ice-block above their heads.

Supplying endless laughs in a very slapstick sense (there’s a whole song dedicated to moustaches, as well as a load of sheep-related humour), the film has you half-giggling half-grimacing throughout.

Charlize Theron steals the show as the wife of villainous outlaw, Liam Neeson, and with surprise cameos from the likes of Jamie Foxx, Ryan Reynolds, and Ewan McGregor – it makes for a truly all-star show.
