K-Stew to play Patti Smith?

Rock star biopic confirmed

It isn't just teenage Twilight fans who think Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson make an unbeatable screen couple; legendary rock star and musician Patti Smith does, too.

Smith's memoir, Just Kids, about her early years in the music industry and her intense relationship with cult photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, is being made into a film and, though casting isn't finalised yet, Smith has already expressed her own preference.

Hint blog reports that when asked who she thought should play her, Smith replied, 'I remember the very first time I saw Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson together, when they were younger, and I thought those two kids could have easily played us.

Kristen Stewart has form at playing wild child rockers: her performance as Joan Jett in The Runaways was widely praised.

Mapplethorpe's stark and powerful portraits of Patti were among his best work and one of the reasons that she achieved such iconic status.

Years after her Seventies heyday, rock Goddess Patti Smith is still an inspiration to many – not least in the fashion industry. Hedi Slimane’s recent debut for Saint Laurent is a case in point: the white shirts and mannish tailoring are classic Patti attire.

In any case, we won't have to wait long to see Kristen and Rob back together, as the Twilight Breaking Dawn Part Two UK premiere is just around the corner - on November 14. Despite splitting this summer over Kristen's indiscretion with Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders, the couple reportedly will appear together on the red carpet.

'We’re going to be fine. We’re totally fine,' Kristen recently told the Associated Press when asked about her and Rob will be promoting Breaking Dawn 2.
