Nicole Kidman and Grace Kelly have more than a few things in common already: a classic fashion sense, icy beauty and poise, and A-list status in the film industry.

And here's our first glimpse of the two becoming one as Nicole plays Grace in the upcoming film Grace Of Monaco. The film is set in 1962 not long after Kelly, already a famous actress, married Prince Rainier III of Monaco. The film is already being described as awards bait, and follows a recent trend for Old Hollywood biopics – Michelle Williams has already played Marilyn Monroe, and we have Sienna Miller as Tippi Hedren (who, like Grace Kelly, was a muse of director Alfred Hitchcock) and Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor to look forward to.

We're most excited about the costumes: it's not hard to guess that woman who inspired the iconic Hermes 'Kelly' bag was always immaculately dressed and an archetype of Fifties Hollywood glamour. Her 1956 wedding dress is still considered a design classic – so much so that it was a key reference for the dress in which Kate Middleton married Prince William in 2011.
