After she hit her head on stage during a concert in New Zealand, and battled through the gig with a concussion, she landed in Brisbane for the Australian leg of her tour wearing a purple halter dress with an of-the-moment peplum from the London-based designer’s autumn winter 2012-13 collection.

Koma, whose team sent Gaga’s stylist two dresses for the tour, wasn’t sure until today that she would even wear one. When we spoke to him, he was suitably chuffed. ‘I am always happy to have such amazing women wearing my creations – especially when they look so good,’ he told us. ‘She has become an icon; she’s experimented a lot and I’m very happy that she wore one of my dresses. She’s unique. I mean, Lady Gaga is Lady Gaga.’ True that.

Dresses by the Central Saint Martins graduate have been worn by Beyoncé (most recently at the Memorial Day concert that marked her return to performing after the birth of daughter Blue Ivy Carter), Cheryl Cole, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys and Kylie Minogue.

‘I am always happy to work with women like Beyoncé and Kylie because it’s an ongoing relationship – I create special pieces for them and that’s amazing. We’ve been quite lucky that a lot of amazing singers have worn the dresses.’

But his all-time favourite celebrity style moment? ‘When Beyoncé wore a piece from my graduate collection, that was quite a big thing for me. And I didn’t even know about it until a friend told me about it. She wore it on the night that she won her MTV Award [in 2009].’

Gaga teamed her Koma creation with matching round purple shades, black gloves and a pair of vertiginous Louboutin Daffodile heels. Her head might be healed but, in those heels, we’re a bit worried about her ankles.
