Following her 2011 directorial debut, W.E, Madonna is returning to the chair for Adé – a film adaptation based on Rebecca Walker's novel Adé: A Love Story.

The novel centres around an interracial romance between a US student and a Muslim man on an idyllic isle off the coast of Kenya.

The two make plans to wed, but their hastily-planned marriage is doomed by societal pressures and violent political forces.

Oscar-winning Bruce Cohen (the man behind American Beauty and Silver Linings Playbook) will produce, with Jessica Leventhal and Walker also on board.

Let's just hope that the film is more successful than W.E…
