Everyone expected Lily Allen to wear a Chanel bridal gown for her walk down the aisleAllen herself even told reporters that Karl Lagerfeld would do the dress honours. But when the singer appeared at St James the Great Church for her wedding to Sam Cooper last weekend, she looked radiant in a custom-designed dress by Delphine Manivet.
Fashion observers, though delighted for the blooming bride, were at least mildly perplexed: why would Allen say she was wearing Chanel, and then not wear Chanel? When has anyone in the history of fashionlet alone a former face of the brandswerved from the opportunity to wear Chanel couture?
We heard rumours and now we can share photographic proof that Allen did commission a Chanel gown, after the fashion house posted Karl Lagerfelds sketch and an image from a fitting online.
Lagerfelds ivory chiffon dress is in keeping with Allens vintage style, with leg-of-mutton sleeves, a high illusion neckline and an empire waist.
Guests said that Allen changed out of her ceremony dress and into the Chanel creation for her country house reception.
So thats two priceless, timeless bridal gowns... which would you have preferred to wear?
