The French designer travelled to Canada last week to announce a major career retrospective, to open at The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in June 2011. The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier will chronicle Gaultiers 35 years in fashion, presenting couture creations alongside sketches, photographs and inspiration materials, reported WWD.
The exhibition will be organised along five very JPG-appropriate themes: Paris, Fusions, Multi-Gender, Eurotrash/X-rated and Metropolis. Film clips from productions he has costumed over the years, and videos showcasing collaborations with the like of Lady Gaga and Madonna, will complete the legendary picture.
The museum chose to approach Gaultier as an exhibition subject due to his open-minded vision of society, a crazy, sensitive, funny, sassy world in which everyone can assert his or her identity, said Nathalie Bondil, museum director and chief curator.
