When it comes to flame haired beauties we'll wager that you think Karen Elson has been on the scene longer than Christina Hendricks. But while the model may have been a cover star for more time that Hendricks has been in Mad Men, it seems that she may have been inspired by the actress when it comes to her signature red locks.
Hendricks has just done an interview with Harpers Bazaar US in which she claims that she gave Elson the idea - and the how-to tips - for getting the titian shade that helped her on her way to success. Back in the 1990s Hendricks was working the international model circuit when she met the then unknown, now familiar face.
She says, 'I was in Milan, and you would see the same girls at castings. There was one girlshe was like, 'I can't get any work. I'm so sick of this, I'm ready to quit. I love your hair color. What do you color your hair with?' and I was like, 'Oh, it's red. Here's my formula.' It was Karen Elson. A couple of weeks later, she had bright-red hair. Sorry, Karen, but you did ask about my hair color. Then I saw her on the cover of Italian Vogue, and the rest is history!'
So there we have it. Christina Hendricks is responsible for the rise and rise of Karen Elson. Who knew?More
