Best dressed: Serpentine Gallery party

Guests mingled under the gallery's latest pavilion - a bright red construction complete with ping pong tables, designed by architect Jean Nouvel - and were treated to a performance by Dizzee Rascal.

When it came to their wardrobes the most fashion-forward ladies were divided. Half the crowd opted for standard summer fare - Lily Cole wowed in a bright blue maxi-dress, stylist Caroline Sieber opted for a nude chiffon and lace mini-dress, and Donna Air sported a pretty turquoise number.

But a clutch of guests shunned brights in favour of classic black - and, may we say, looked fantastic. Topping our best dressed list is Anglophile Julia Restoin Roitfeld, whose full-length black lace dress has us rethinking our own summer party looks. And as for her black and animal print shoes - we love. Margo Stilley ticked both the black and romantic boxes with her stunning ruffled dress. Charlotte Dellal kept her look simple in a bandeau maxi-dress and topped it with a shell-like hat. And, always to be relied on to make a fashion statement, Grace Jones caused quite a stir by teaming her very little black dress with a show-stopping hat.
