Last season New York Fashion week's parties were noteable for one thing, their absence. There were almost none. In the throes of the recession everyone, including Marc Jacobs (the king of fashion week parties) cancelled theirs.
However, this September the parties are back, kicking off in earnest this weekend with Alexander Wang's after show party on Saturday night, held in an old petrol station in the Meatpacking District. Despite a mammoth effort to empty all the pumps of petrol and douse the entire location in flame proof soap suds Wang still had to recruit security guards to prevent anyone smoking at the open-air event. Not least Courtney Love (pictured) who performed for a crowd that included Lily Donaldson and Mischa Barton.
Just around the corner Uma Thurman's ex - Andre Balzas hosted a party at his hotel The Standard, to mark the opening of a new bar there - the Boom Boom Room. Madonna and Jesus Luz, Jude Law, Linsay Lohan and Josh Hartnett were among the star-studded guest list - the first to enjoy the venue's 360 degree views of the Manhattan sky-line.
