Not content with starring in Chanel's latest accessories campaign and playing at more festivals than any other female artist this summer (33 according to her), Lily Allen was fresh off a jet from Japan this afternoon to invite the fashion press to Claridges for tea. There she unveiled her new self-titled jewellery collection and talked fashion and shopping with a select crowd.
'I get asked to do things all the time.' Lily told ELLEuk.com this afternoon. So having declined to front a scent for a weekly gossip magazine (really!) and other such projects, when an independent jewellery company offered Lily the chance to design her own jewellery collection she jumped at the chance.
'I was on tour in New York when we got the call. Vicky (my assistant) and I went straight to a book shop and bought 40 fashion reference books about jewellery'. From those Lily was inspired to create three mini-collections featuring, coins, fruit and animals - including her favourite piece - an enamel Flamingo on a chain (pictured here).
The collection, priced between £30 and £100, has already been picked up by Argos and H Samuel but hasn't even been shown to to buyers yet, so could go in to various other stores around the country when it launches at the end of September.
And there will be more collections after this one. 'I really enjoyed it. I had more creative control than when I had a collection at New Look and I really cared about what these pieces looked like. If your name is on the box you make sure it looks good' says Lily.
So if Lily wasn't a singer would she be a designer? 'My best friend Kim (Jones - Davidoff's creative director) and I are talking about designing a unisex range of clothing. He'll do men's shirts and I'll make a shirt dress, and we'd like to do jersey sweatshirts wi More
