The films called The Brothers Bloom and I play Penelope, an eccentric heiress who hasnt left her house in 15 years, a Chanel clad Rachel told us.
My very first fitting with Beatrix (Aruna Pasztor, costume designer famous for her work on Alfie and Vanity Fair) was in my house. We were talking about the character of Penelope when I suddenly ran upstairs and brought down these old boots. Theyre basically a cross between a clown boot and a Victorian lace-up boot. Sounds like somebodys got a wardrobe to rival Helena Bonham Carters.
Rachel laughed: They suit Penelope because they dont go with anything, theyre really clumpy and they gave me a funny walk. The character came entirely out of those boots I wear them in every single scene!
The film, which premieres at the LFF tonight, also stars Mark Ruffalo and Adrien Brody as conmen who plan to swindle the unconventional heiress, but soon fall for her charms. The actress, who picked up an Oscar for The Constant Gardener, admitted it was the intensity of her Oscar-winning role as an idealistic but doomed young woman that made her want to do something completely different. I really wanted to do a comedy, she admitted, because I normally die in my films. Lets face it, right?
