This year ELLE will be supporting the White Ribbon Alliance - an international coalition of organisations and individuals, including the Prime Minister's wife Sarah Brown and Madame Sarkozy, Carla Bruni, who are all hoping to change lives.
Every minute, somewhere in the world a woman dies during childbirth and many women still have no choice about how they have their babies, where they give birth and even in some places whether or not to have a baby. We hope to raise money in order to change this.
The White Ribbon Alliance works at all levels from inside impoverished communities to lobbying governments to help women know their rights, educate them to facilitate change in their own countries and save their own and their babies lives.
So far we at ELLE have already contacted our friends in the fashion industry to help raise money and donate much needed supplies for our chosen area, India. H&M have donated 200 umbrellas that will be distributed to midwives who walk between town and villages in fierce sun; Topshop have given us 100 pairs of flip flops for these midwives too, while Marks & Spencer and Debenhams have each donated 100 bed sheets so that we can help provide clean birthing environments for expectant mothers in India.
And the best is yet to come. As part of our commitment to the charity we will be hosting an online bag auction with 30 bags on offer for 30 days. Starting from the 5th November you can register online here at Elleuk.com and then take part in the 30-day auction at www.buyoncegivetwice.com for your chance to bid for some of the most coveted and luxurious designer bags of the season.
