Tod's also confirmed last night that Gwyneth will be their new face for autumn/ winter 08. So, naturally yesterday afternoon, it was off to Port Canto to join Gwyneth Paltrow and Dennis Hopper on board Altair, the floating palace belonging to Tods owner Diego Della Valle, the man dubbed the Italian Ralph Lauren.
Yacht etiquette requires everyone to remove their shoes before boarding, so it must have been a wrench for Gwyneth to slip off the gorgeous gold Roger Vivier heels she was wearing with her stunning pink strapless Lanvin gown (and a next-season Tods clutch, of course). Guests tucked into fruity Bellinis and a huge lump of Parmesan, while Diego surprised birthday boy Dennis Hopper with a chocolate cake to celebrate his 72nd birthday.
Once wed got over our sea legs, it was straight to the Carlton Hotel for the Chopard party, held in a vast room decorated like a futuristic secret garden, complete with Perspex gnomes. Christina Ricci took to the stage to introduce Oceans Eleven star Andy Garcia, who displayed hitherto unknown bongo skills with his Cuban music troupe the Cineson All-Stars.
Gwyneth was also in the Carlton, having a pre-premiere drink before hitting the red carpet for a special screening of her new movie Two Lovers. She had changed into a beautiful black Chanel gown hot off the Cruise catwalk (pictured) and another pair of perilously high Roger Vivier heel, accompanied by non other than designer pal, Valentino. With friends like these, Gwyneth is the best-dressed star on the Croisette and, in this town, thats saying something!
