A Sneak Peek At L’Wren’s New Lenses

‘Sunglasses are a woman’s best friend,’ L'Wren drawled, resembling a lithe fashion drawing in a velvet pencil skirt and curvy tweed jacket from her own ready-to-wear collection.

‘I wanted to incorporate things that I use in my clothes so the frames mimic my experimentation with texture,’ she said, flicking her glossy raven hair over one shoulder.

Hence, tweed, lace, brocade and gold of her signature garments have been reinterpreted by L’Wren in her 21-piece eyewear collection, displayed yesterday on tiered cake stands. ‘I love them all so much I couldn’t edit them down,’ she said.

‘With glasses, it really comes down to personal preference and style; there are no steadfast rules,’ she said, stroking a pair of pale pink delicate filigree frames speckled with crystals.

The eyewear collection, made in collaboration with Menrad Group, a century-old German spectacle frame business, caters to ‘all tastes, moods and personas’.

L’Wren’s favourite? ‘I do love the cat eye frame,’ she said, ‘Or the urban fantasy goggles.’

Said goggles are tied on with grosgrain ribbon, one of the designer’s signature trims, ‘I’ve always had an obsession with the urban and I wanted to have an accessory that you can just play with and style however you like,’ she said, demonstrating this fact by tying a pair around a models’ waist, as a belt.

‘It’s funny,’ she said, ‘I thought the goggles would be a big success for the fashion show, but we’ve actually sold so many. There’s just so many cool ways you can wear them.’
