'In the 60's and 70's Acapulco was the destination for the jet set attracting movie stars including Elizabeth Taylor and Sofia Loren. It rivalled Miami and Rio as a city where fun in the sun met fashion and glamour. This weekend, the nostalgic port city maintained its reputation by hosting the ELLE Fashion Diseña Awards.
While in town, Matthew and I stayed at the beautiful and very retro Las Brisas Hotel, a hilltop hideaway with white and pink rooms, white and pink jeeps to drive you around, and white and pink everywhere else.
Our first day we relaxed by the pool joined by Poppy Delevigne and our good friend India Langton. Having had a hectic day in Mexico City the day
before we felt it was important to relax and unwind with a day to simply soak up the sun.
The next day started with Matthew and Poppy
doing interviews and filming segments for the E! Entertainment television program that is a reality show on the contestants and awards. It is interesting to watch backstage filming as one is not usually aware of the process it takes to make a television program.
With interviews out of the way it was time to get ready for the awards later in the evening. We arrived at 9pm to walk a red carpet, do interviews and pictures before the fashion show began. On the catwalk, each of the fifteen designers showed a dress they had made. The jurors, which included Matthew and Poppy decided which designer would receive the top prize-a grant and mentorship sponsored by ELLE Mexico.
The winning dress was a nude tulle gown with applique studwork to the skirt, a corset upper, and handbeaded aqua crystal collar. It was designed by Edgar Lozano.
