Students in the footwear design degree programme at De Montfort University have created designs for Kate to consider during her tour of the Leicester campus next Thursday, 8 March.
The Duchess will meet the student designers before selecting a favourite design from the shortlist. The chosen student will make the shoes in Kates size and get to see their handiwork on the feet of one of the worlds most closely watched women.
Students who will present their shoes to the Duchess include Sam Sawkill, Summer Spencer, Kay Yeng Cheng, Tabitha Duffield, Becka Hunt and Mei Chun Lai. They drew inspiration from Kates engagement ring, the archetypal English rose and Kate and Prince Williams time in Scotland.
It is so exciting to be given the opportunity to design for the Duchess, Yeng Cheng said. It makes my family very proud to know I am involved in something like this and as a future designer its a really good start.
The Leicester trip will mark the beginning of the Queens Diamond Jubilee Tour of the UK, as well as Kates first official public engagement with the Queen.More
