The Simpsons get ready for Gaga

In the episode, called “Lisa Goes Gaga,” the singer makes a detour to Springfield to cheer up the locals through song. Expect an animated Gaga Express train propelled by a flame-shooting bra, lots of outlandish costumes, and a lip-lock with Marge Simpson.

‘I play a little bit of a slut,’ the singer joked to Entertainment Weekly. ‘The apple doesn’t fall far from my artistic tree.’

Gaga anticipated her Marge-over with a teal hair funnel in the style of the Simpsons matriarch in July 2011. She said that recording her episode was ‘one of the coolest things I’ve ever done,’ but ‘a little nerve-wracking’ too.

‘I make music, but I don’t do voiceovers every day of the week, and their characters are so awesomely convincing,’ she said. ‘I had to remind myself of the sincerity of the humour.’

For his part, Simpsons creator Matt Groening said that featuring Gaga fit with his goal of inviting ‘the most iconic personalities of our time’ to appear on the show. Not that Gaga’s guest-starring stint came without its challenges. ‘It’s very hard to top reality with her, but I’m sure we’ll come up with something that is going to be as improbable as her usual wardrobe,’ he said.

The episode will air in spring 2012 as part of the show's 23rd season.

Fashion industry types have received the Simpsons treatment in the past. Linda Evangelista, Donatella Versace, and Karl Lagerfeld all featured in a US Harper’s Bazaar spread in 2007; Marc Jacobs has a tattoo of his doppelganger from the same issue.
