Four years ago, Beyoncé serenaded the newly inaugurated President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama as the couple took their first dance at the main inaugural ball.

For his second time around, the president gave Beyoncé an even bigger stage, inviting her to sing the national anthem during his official inauguration ceremony.

And boy, did she dress for it.

The singer wore a full-length gown and coat, finishing the formal look with emerald earrings designed by Lorraine Schwartz. She removed the coat (and her earpiece) during her performance, which followed appearances by James Taylor and Kelly Clarkson.

Jay-Z, who joined Beyonce in a place of honour at the ceremony, opted for head-to-toe Tom Ford.

The couple rank among the president and first lady’s most prominent friends and supporters, raising $4 million for the Obama reelection campaign during a single event this autumn.

‘Beyoncé couldn’t be a better role model for our daughters because she carries herself with such class and poise and has so much talent,’ Obama told the assembled donors.

She’s got our vote too, Mr President…
